Mourinho decides to leave Madrid
If reports in the Spanish media are to be believed, Jose Mourinho will leave the club at the end of the season on the 30th June. Despite a successful campaign in La Liga this season and being on the verge of qualifying for the Semi-Final of the Champions League, it would appear that the friction within the club has proved too much for the “Special One”.
Following clashes with club captain Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, the Spanish media and certain members of the clubs hierarchy including Emilio Butragueño and President Florentina Perez, Mourinho has stated his desire to move back to the Premiership. Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claim that “Mourinho throws in the towel”
Also speculating that his preferred destination would be London, not Liverpool or Manchester. Having recently purchased a new luxury home in the capital last month, rumours circulated that Mourinho will head back to England to rekindle his love affair with British football.
The rivalry with Barcelona and his personal battle with Pep Guardiola have gripped Spanish football and as both teams prepare for the nail biting run in to La Liga season, only six points separate the two sides.
In recent weeks Madrid’s lead has dwindled from ten points and the cracks have started to become more evident at the Bernabeu. The debacle at Villarreal which saw coach José Mourinho, Sergio Ramos and Mesut Ozil being sent off during the heated 1-1 draw appears to have been the straw that broke the camels back.
With the next installment of “El Classico” looming large in April and the very real possibility of the rivals facing each other in Champions League final in Munich, the next eight weeks should prove to be riveting for football fans around the world.
