David Beckham makes successful full debut for PSG (Match Highlights)

David Beckham played a major part in securing Paris Saint Germain’s second victory in four days over rivals Marseille. The Parisians ran out 2-0 victors in the French Cup 1/8 final and the signs for the other leading French teams looks ominous as the Qatari funded juggernaut  continues on course for a domestic double.
The former England midfielder played the majority of the game and showed no signs of fatigue. Star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic showed his class scoring both goals for PSG and laid to rest fears that he was suffering a dip in form following a disappointing performance in the Clasico on Sunday.   The addition of Beckham to the squad has helped invigorate Paris Saint Germain at a pivotal point in the season.

The match illustrated that even at 38 years old, Beckham’s ability to make an incisive pass, at the right time can and always will make up for his lack of pace. His passion was clearly evident when he clashed with Marseille striker Jordan Ayew late in the game after he was fouled. Both players received a yellow cardas tempers flared and they went nose to nose, initiating a minor fracas between both teams.

Just a precaution he was duly substituted in the 86th minute and left the field to rapturous applause from the home crowd.  Pleased with his performance, Beckham will be acutely aware that many young French players will look to make a name for themselves by antagonising him in the same manner as Ayew.

‘I am very happy to last 86 minutes. I enjoyed it,’ Beckham said. ‘I felt good. I have been working hard for the last few weeks. It helps to have players around me who work the way they do and play the way they do.’

This is just the start of a new French adventure for David Beckham. After two wins against their fiercest rivals the signs are good for Goldenballs, another success beckons. PSG continue their ascent to the top of French football.
